Romantic Brugge

Culture and HistoryBrugge is the Venice of the north - been there 2 times and it's great esp at night
Ghent is a nice quaint town Brussel's main square is the only real attraction there along with Moule and Frites Manekenpis is a bit of a joke. Millions of tourist around a little boy fountain. Reminds me of the Mona Lisa but with new outfits every day. |
Pralines - include at end of every meal
|
FoodThey have a saying about food in Belgium : French food with German portions at North American prices.
2 words sum up Belgium : CHOCOLATE & BEER = Weight gain !!! Chocolate is serve at the end of every meal at restaurant - FREE !!! Don't go for the Godiva like every tourist. Try independent chocolatiers or if you like good cheap chocolates buy the kilo, go to Leonidas. I especially like the truffle ones and not the pralines. |

Food & beer is amazing in Belgium. Over 1000 types of local beers and it’s cheap.
Ghent is a great place. A little of Bruge (lots of canal & beautifully preserved buildings) It’s a fashionable working town without the tourist !!! Nice boutiques and great food & amazing chocolates. Leonendos choc are the cheapest - $25cdn/kg. Try Chicken Waterzooi or eel in green sauce. Local specialties. Good Turkish food there too as there’s a large population residing in Ghent.
Big city of Brussels is so so. Only the Grand Palace Square is nice. Manekenpis ceramic peeing fountain is a joke as they dress him up in stupid uniforms everyday. Try the moules by the buckets with beer. Mmmmm! Some great restaruant and old beer parlors around. Lively at night.
Brugge is the jewel of Belgium. The Venice of the north (without the pollution) with weeping willows, watermills, swans everywhere. So nice that it ranks among my favorite European towns.
Don’t forget to indulge in some truffle chocolates!!!! It’s cheap and good. Go at night and day. Very different feeling when there’s no traffic and all the canals are lit up. Beware of tourist trap restaurant’s around the main Grote Markt
Antwerp is not too bad. Lots of shopping. Huge cathedral. Don’t forget to see Ruben’s house and the museum of Fine Arts - house the best collection of Ruben’s.
