Kim Chi - the staple of Korean Food

Cultural HistoryKorea is now the new Japan. There are lots of things to do and see in Seoul but I found not as friendly as Japan. Being there two times while living in Japan, I was always glad when i landed back on Japanese soil. It's a fascinating country and very similar in many ways to Japan but my preference is still Japan.
There are lots of temples and palaces. The massive grounds is right in the heart of Seoul just outside the gate. You could easily spend a day there. Lots of newlyweds taking wedding photos on the grounds. The buildings are not very old and many have been reconstructed as you can tell the paint is so fresh. The main strips of Seoul are busy with shop and restaurants and karaoke bars. It sort of reminds me of a mini Japan but with the widest streets I’ve ever seen. Don’t try crossing the streets it’s suicide. Use the subways (pedestrian underpaths). The roads were built so that airplanes could land on them. The Itawan area is over-rated and is more for the American military people. Lotte world is sort of neat. Go skating , shopping then on a rollercoaster. Shochu is like rubbing alcohol but when you eat kim chee who can tell the difference!!! This alcohol is used to mix like gin to make many cocktails. |

Food & DiningWhat's Korea without Kim Chee & Kalbi (Galbi).
Once you sit down in a restaurant you will have numerous dishes of pickle put in front of you (ban cha) As for Galbi, you will grill meat on your table and then put it in a lettuce along with hot sauce & a hot pepper then roll it up and eat it up. It’s good. Bim Bim Bop is also another favorite, eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It’s hot pickled veggies on rice with a fried egg on top. If you can’t handle hot food your stomach is in for some trouble! You’ll be spending lots of time on the toilet!!! But it’s soooo good. Just make sure you chew lots of gum to cover the kim chee breath you will have all day. Even the subways stink of garlic. Older women like to chew gum and crack their gum |
